day 2

Influence

Mary Ellen Mark was influenced by two main photographers. The names of the photographers are Robert Frank, and Helen Livett. Frank was a photographer during World War II. he started as an escape, and in 1947, he moved to the United States and become a fashion photographer in New York. Livett was a street photographer, she dropped out of high school and taught kids art while teaching herself how to use a camera. Mary Ellen Mark was intrigued by "living life on the far edges," by this she meant, odd things to take pictures of, for example: circus people, prostitutes, and mental institution.

She uses a very different style of Photography. A lot of times, her photos are very depressing. When it isn't though, he photos have a lot of meaning, it makes you think and look past just the focus point. it is very odd because she takes photos of things we rarely see on an average day. I do not see circuses often at all. You will see some of her photos being clowns or animals, like a rhinoceros. My first post and the picture has the boy and his dog. that picture show a lot of emotion through sadness and depression.
